About This Tune
A timeless gospel hymn and jam session staple. Uses the three most common chords in bluegrass (G, C, D) and teaches solid rhythm fundamentals.
History & Background
Written by Ada R. Habershon in 1907 and adapted by A.P. Carter in 1935, this hymn became a cornerstone of country and bluegrass music. The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band's 1972 album of the same name — featuring Doc Watson, Earl Scruggs, and other legends — cemented it as a symbol of the genre's living tradition.
